About the Department:

The Department of Telugu was established in the year 1974. From the establishment to till  date, the Department of Telugu has been catering to the needs of the students from time to time by teaching Telugu Language and Literature and  promoting interest and creativity in the Telugu Language. Telugu  is a Dravidian native language of India. It is also the State  language of the State of Telangana.

Telugu as a subject is imparted to the students of English medium at the  undergraduate level as a second language. The Department  follows the course syllabus & curriculum designed by the Department of Telugu, Osmania University

VISION:

The Vision of the Department of Telugu is to enhance the efficiency , proficiency  in the Telugu-language and literature and  to promote the regional language Telugu on par with international languages.

MISSION:

  • The Department of Telugu has opted to promote the mother tongue.
  • Implementing student centric methods like seminars, workshops, group discussions assignments, student study projects.
  •  Enable the students to improve communicative skills and employability skills.
  • Enable the students to develop good character and moral values and also to understand society.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • To spread the greatness of Telugu  culture, art and tradition through the Telugu Language .
  • To enable the students to develop interest towards the language.
  • Improving  the skills, viz., listening, speaking, reading and writing;
  • To inculcate social and moral values among the students.
  • To empower the students with language efficiency that enables them to cope up with the challenges at various levels.

Report: The department  of Telugu introduced the Certificate Course  on Human Values and Professional Ethics from 21-01-2021 to 06-02-2021. Duration of the course was 15 days. 30 students enrolled in this course.

BEST PRACTICES:

The department of Telugu of BJR Govt. Degree College follows a methodology which is useful for teaching the second language  Telugu for undergraduate students. Personal interaction  helps the students to learn and  understand and also practice  skills such as listening, speaking along with the other skills. i. e writing and reading. If a learner really wants to speak, read and write he should first develop interest in learning. For this, our department has adopted the following best practices to reach the said goal.

  • Gooda Patrika: (write ups of the students will be collected by the faculty ) This magazine is handwritten  and is available with the department for the interested students;
  • Yearly Magazine(Varshika Patrika ‘Akashram’) (all the collections of the student works will be compiled, designed and  circulated among the students with the title: AKSHARA SPHOORTI;
  • ONLINE MAGAZINE: ( To cater the day to day needs, an online magazine is introduced by this department with the name: SPHOORTHI;
  • Student-Teacher learning Programme: Encouraging the students to represent and act as a subject teacher in the classroom. Some of active students will be sent to other study places viz., schools and  the students will enhance their communicative skills  which also leads to employment opportunity;
  • REVIEW WRITING: Motivating the students to write book reviews, based on some of  the subject of criticism viz., language, content, context, contemporary thought etc.,.
  • PREPARING PROJECTS: All the students have been assigned to prepare and write projects on the core areas of Telugu subject viz; 1. Writers, 2.Books 3. History of Telugu literature 4. Contemporary issues any as per the interests of the students;
  • BOOKS: To encourage the reading habit among the students, the department of Telugu promotes good books related to their lessons as well as the great works in Telugu literature;
  • LANGUAGE CLUB: Reciting poems, jumbling words, essay writing etc., Activities are  undertaken by the Department of Telugu towards best practices; However, the following are some other best practices which may help the student community for their all round development. Effective ways to present new information orally to include differences in learners. Group Discussion Provocations.  Thoughtful Questions. Reflective Responses to Learners .
