Department Profile

About the Department :The department was established in 1974. The department offers Under graduate programs.HEP, HPP, HEPA, HECA, HPCA in English Medium. At present student strength is around 350.  The department works with high dedication and commitment towards overall development of students. Student centric methodology is being adopted by the faculty   to encourage the students in interactive and participative learning. Students are continuously assessed and regular counseling sessions are conducted to motivate the students to pursue P.G. course in History .The department is proud to have its faculty members as Board of studies members and examiners of different colleges and  also Osmania University. The faculty continuously upgrade themselves in ICT teaching methodologies by attending different programs for the benefit of students. Students are seriously involved in curriculum enrichment programs and are guided by the faculty for student study project every year. The department appreciates the meritorious students who have secured ‘O’ grade in semester. The department introduced certificate course to impart  conceptual learning among students.

Brief Profile of the place visited This exhibition is a pictoral journey into the various unknown facets of Telangana. Mr. Aravind travelled extensively  for the past 5 years to collect photographs. According to  Mr.Arvind Telangana is a focal point right from the pre-historic times to the contemporary age of the present day.
Objective of the Trip/Visit To learn about temples which are not known to the general public. The staff and students of History visited exhibition. “Untold Telangana Tales of the forgotten Past” on 6-2-2019. The exhibition was organised by a youth research scholar Aravinda Arya Pakide at Ravindra Bharati. The staff and students interacted with the research scholar.

 

Outcome of the Trip/Visit The students learnt about many unknown temples located in remote areas and are familiar.

The students and Staff  visited Rainbow Homes ,an  Orphanage for girls near Mushherabad in Hyderabad. They interacted with the residents of the orphanage and motivate the students to excel in their studies. All the initiatives taken to contain the highly contagious disease are routed through Public institutions. It is in this context that the conference is held to discuss the need to revitalise and rejuvenate the Public institutions and their role in bringing social justice.

Context: As per the revised curriculum of Osmania University, Statistics Paper was made mandatory for the UG students. In this context workshop on statistics was organized for the faculty.

Ø  To bring awareness among the students about the different Civil, Political and Socio-cultural rights.

Ø  To enlighten the students on Human Rights provisions incorporated in Indian Constitution and legal statutes

Context: Human rights have assumed special role in our changing world. It has been recognized that these rights give humanity its very value and therefore they must be guaranteed by all the states. Human rights are the source of hope for millions of common people whose basic rights have been denied. United Nations General Assembly adopted Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948.

 

Outcome: The National Webinar widened the intellectual horizons of students and it enhancement their knowledge on different dimensions of human rights.

Context of   the Webinar  

Human rights have assumed special role in our changing world. It has been recognized that these rights give humanity its very value and therefore they must be guaranteed by all the states. Human rights are the source of hope for millions of common people whose basic rights have been denied. United Nations General Assembly adopted Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948.

It is in this context National Webinar   on Human Rights was organized.

 

Objective of the  Programme  The main objectives of the programme were

  • To bring awareness among the students about the different Civil, Political and Socio-cultural rights.
  • To enlighten the students on Human Rights provisions incorporated in Indian Constitution and legal statutes.
Report  of the Programme  

The programme started with inaugural address by Principal Dr. P. BalaBhaskar and sir explained the importance of Human Rights in the present day world.

First session was addressed by Dr. I. Sandeep, Assistant Professor of Public Administration. Dr. Sandeep gave a historical account of evolution of concept of human rights. He gave deep insights into the concept of human rights and explained that  all human rights are inherent to all human beings and they are universal and inalienable.

Resource person for the second session was Dr. B. Jagannatham, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Central University of Gujarat. Sir has enlightened the students on dynamics and changing context of human rights. The opined that laws on human rights have to be formulated by resorting to democratic and inclusive methods.

Resource Person for the third session was Dr. Pallavi Kabde , Assistant Professor of Public Administration  from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. Madam   discussed on Gender perspective to human rights. She expressed that if the women are empowered, the whole family and nation will progress. She has thrown a light on  present scenario of position of women  and the issues like domestic violence, sexual harassment, gender based discrimination.

The programme  concluded with concluding remarks by Dr. D. Muniswamy, Assistant Professor  of Economics, C. Shanthi, Assistant Professor of Political  Science, T. Geetha Sree, Assistant Professor of Political Science  and V.V. Mallika, Assistant Professor of Public Administration

Outcome of the Programme

Objectives

 

 

  • To enhance the critical and creative thinking among the students
  • To  improve the articulation and writing skills of the students
  • To keep the students abreast of latest current events
  • To instill research aptitude among the students
  • To facilitate the students in their preparation for competitive exams and PG entrance
Context 

 

As most of the students hail from rural areas, their articulative and writing skills are not at the desired level. Also many of the students are preparing for competitive exams and write PG entrance to various national level reputed universities. In this context to improve the writing skills, analytical and make them aware of latest current affairs  in national and international affairs and to promote multi disciplinary approach among the students PRERANA magazine was started.
Practice

 

 

It is a monthly e-magazine published and managed by Faculty Of Social Sciences.All the faculty members of the college  and students  contribute  content related to their respective subjects, current events and relate them to topics in their disciplines.Also publish the material every month for competitive exams purpose.Students are encouraged to develop the content related to current national and international importance.
Outcome

 

The students are inspired to write articles. This improved their writing and research skills. Instead of buying the magazine, now the students are motivated to read the e-magazine.

Goal 1  To educate the students on local customs, Tradition, Village Deities

2 To make the students study local Arts handicrafts and tourists destinations.

3  To enable students to  understand local history and History of local leaders.

4  The study  helps in capacity building of the students and enrich local /Regional    history.

 

The Context Local History is the study of History in geographically local context. In the Context  Of growing Tourism the knowledge of local history helps in developing tourism.

To highlight local culture  and its unique past glory .

 

Practice  The  faculty  of History explains  the students  about the importance of Local History in the present day   society. An account of evolution of Local history and Various  important features of local history will be explained to the students.Then the students were asked to read the publications on Local History.
Evidence of Success This practice widened the horizons of students on  Local History. They got good Success ,   idea on how best practices  helps in understanding the Society, local Customs , temples and fares.

A  case study was undertaken by the student to study the project on  temples in Hyderabad   as part of Jignasa Project, which is selected for final presentation at state level.
