ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Biotechnology has been established in the year 2019 with three combinations -Bt.B.Z (Biotechnology .Botany. Zoology) Bt.B.C (Biotechnology. Botany. Chemistry), Bt.Z.C (Biotechnology. Zoology. Chemistry) . The Department introduced certificate on Cell Designer in collaboration with Spoken Tutorials IIT Bombay.
Vision :
- To establish platform for dissemination and creation of knowledge in Biotechnology through education , exploration, experimentation and generate graduates with ethics and values.
Mission:
- To create an innovative, creative study environment to the students.
- To train the student to excel in both practical and theoretical aspects of Biotechnology
- Motivate and guide the students to develop new techniques in Biotechnology.
- Elementary knowledge in clinical, genetical, immunological, biochemical techniques for the graduates.
OBJECTIVES
- To impart quality education through well balanced curriculum and equip students with knowledge and skills for research and professional careers.
- To train students and help them gain experience in higher learning through discussions, debates, and power point presentations.
- To create awareness about possible scope and range of research activities in the field of life sciences.
- To enlighten the students with necessary and appropriate laboratory skills and techniques.
- To organize outreach activities to promote scientific culture.
- Providing the timely and accessible information on current and emerging trends in Biotechnology.

COURSE OUTCOMES OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
SEMESTER-ICREDITS-4 TEACHINGHOUR/WEEK-4
PAPER-I TITLE:BS104 CELLBIOLOGYANDGENETICS
On completion of the courses students will be able
- To understand the cell structure of different organisms.
- To differentiate the cell divisions, Senescence, Necrosis and Apoptosis.
- To explain Mendelian inheritance and their deviations.
- To discuss multiple alleles, penetrance and X-linked inheritance.
- To describe linkage, Non Mendelian inheritance, mitochondrial inheritance and cytoplasmic inheritance.
- To understand Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium.

PAPER-II TITLE:BS204 BIOLOGICAL CHEMISTRY AND MICROBIOLOGY
On completion of the courses students will be able
- To identify Bio molecules, Their importance and Classification.
- To understand how Bio molecules like proteins, carbohydrates Enzymes and Nucleic acids
React or function in a living cell.
- To explain the conversion of Bio molecules into Energy.
- To compare principle and applications of various types of Microscopy.
- To Classify and explain the structure and general characteristics of Microorganisms.
- To distinguish sterilization methods.
- To prepare various Bacteriological, Algal, and Fungal Media.

SEMESTER–IIIBS-305 CREDITS-4 TEACHING HOURS/WEEK: 4PAPER III TITLE:MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY
On Completion of this Course students will be able
- To explain genome organization and DNA replication.
- To understand gene expression ®ulation in Prokaryotes .
- To have knowledge of gene expression ,modification& regulation in Eukaryotes.
- To explain how the recombinant DNA molecules are prepared in the laboratory.
SEMESTER–IIIBS-302 CREDITS-2 TEACHINGHOURS/WEEK: 2 PAPER TITLE: SEC-2 : IMMUNOLOGICALTECHNIQUES
On Completion of this Course students will be able
- To explain antigen-antibody reactions, Immunoelectrophoresis.
- To distinguish Radio immunology assay & immunoflourescent assay.
- To enumerate T and B cells from human peripheral blood.
- To perform microcytotoxicity assay.
SEMESTER–IV BS-405 CREDITS-4 TEACHINGHOURS/WEEK:4PAPER– IV TITLE: BIO INFORMATICS AND BIOSTATISTICS
On Completion of this Course students will be able
- To understand bioinformatics tools and resources.
- To distinguish biological databases.
- To compare the Data Retrieval tools and its Utilization.
- To interpret concepts of phylogeny tree.
To execute measures of dispersion and probability distributions
SEMESTER–IV BS-401 CREDITS-2 TEACHINGHOURS/WEEK: 2 PAPER – TITLE: SEC-3MOLECULARMARKERSINPLANTBREEDING
On Completion of this Course students will be able
- To understand types of molecular markers and their development.
- To distinguish PCR based and sequence based molecular markers.
- To interpret linkage mapping and QTL mapping.
To assess genetic similarity among genotypes
SEMESTER – V CREDITS- 3 TEACHINGHOUR/WEEK-4 PAPER – VTITLE: CORE–V MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
- On completion of the courses students will be able.
- To explain genome organization in higher organisms.
- To explain the constitution of human genome and it’s cytological composition.
- To explain the genetic disorders like trisomy,( DOWN’S SYNDROME,EDWARD’S SYNDROME and TURNER’S SYNDROME )etc.
- To understand and perform KARYOTYPE of cytogenetic study of human chromosomes.
- To explain gene transfer techniques and their applications.
SEMESTER – V CREDITS- 4 TEACHINGHOUR/WEEK3PAPER–VI TITLE:ELECTIVE-A PLANTBIOTECHNOLOGY
On completion of the courses students will be able
- To understand basic concepts & totipotency of plant cells.
- To explain the preparation of media for invitro culture of plant cells.
SEMESTER – VI CREDITS- 3 TEACHINGHOUR/WEEK3 PAPER–VII TITLE:ELECTIVE-ANIMAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
On completion of the courses students will be able
- To prepare cell culture and it’s principle and applications.
- To understand invitro techniques in animal improvement.
- To have knowledge of developments in livestock genomics.
SEMESTER–VI CREDITS-3TEACHINGHOUR/WEEK-3PAPER-VIII TITLE:ELECTIVE –B ENVIRONMENTALBIOTECHNOLOGY ANDBIODIVERSITY
On completion of the courses students will be able
- To get insight about types of environmental pollution.
- To understand the production of biomethane ,biohydrogen and bio fuels.
- To explain the methods of composting of organic waste.

Student Projects – The department of Biotechnology has planned to pursue students study projects related to Bio-Waste and Hospital Waste.
Field Trips – The department has planned to organize field trips to Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic disorders during this academic year.
